From Start to Finish

Browse through the gallery below to see this beautiful set going through the steps of creation, from start to finish. The pieces require several days to make as they require much attention to fully fill the molds, set, and demold then repeat for the other color.

Then there is the board, the mold is a high quality board from a great source for molds ( Crafted Elements ). The board is a long multi-step process. One of the board colors has to be mixed and carefully poured into each alternating square. This process is then repeated for the other color of squares.

Next up is the border, done in white. This functions not only as the border but also as the base for the whole board, holding all the squares in place and together. After the board has fully cured (24 plus hours to be strong enough to demold, but not fully hardened) it is demolded then, as you will see from one of the close ups below, the squares are either left with a channel around them or they are filled.

I did not take any pictures of the frame building and mounting process (but will for the next one). Please note this board does not require a frame, it is 100% ready to be used without being set in a frame. But for this board, I wanted something a little extra special so I built a frame, filled the bottom with a good dose of resin then set the board in and flooded the board and frame with clear resin.

Part of the process requires a sanding (again no pictures, sorry) to even the top surface up and then a final coating of resin.

The final step was painting the frame, which perhaps would have been better to do BEFORE the board was in place (next time) so I had to tape the surface up and then spend hours putting on 8 to 10 coats of paint. Until finally it is done. I am going to list this in the store, but know this is very heavy so shipping costs will be very high.

I have yet to actually determine how much the set cost me to make and how much it will sale for but please do not hesitate to contact me at Christopher@LetsGetFroggy.com with any questions you might have about this board or about having one custom made for you in the colors of your choice!

Making items like this is full of joy and that is why I do not try to make a killing on selling this and all the other items listed, I am just trying to make enough to cover all the expenses and to keep this joyful hobby going.

I would like to give a shout out to the people who make the things I use in creating something special like this - please note I am NOT sponsored by any of these people (though that would be nice as it would help keep my costs down) but I do support them as they create very good products:
